Current Projects
Marine Education and Outreach at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab
For the past thirty years the Dauphin Island Sea Lab has operated a K-12 marine science program as part of its overall education and research mission. The Discovery Hall Program faculty has worked with the University Program research faculty to infuse their research results into the classroom curricula used in the K-12 and teacher training programs. The project's objective is to bridge the gap between DISL's research scientists and the K-12 teachers and students that visit the Sea Lab. The first task in the Dauphin Island Sea Lab's collaboration in the Northern Gulf Initiative was to hire a full-time individual with both a research science background (Ph.D.) and strong K-12 educational experience. As this person, Dr. Miller-Way is dedicated to translating and integrating recent research findings of Northern Gulf Institute scientists with the Discovery Hall Program.
